Wayne Tasker was born in Christchurch and spent his childhood living on the outskirts of the city and enjoying life riding bikes, paddling canoes, catching eels and doing most things Kiwi kids do.
When he was 17 his father was transferred to Wellington and he spent a great couple of years in that city being a teenager!!
After leaving college he joined the New Zealand Army and attended The Officer Cadet School in Portsea,Australia.
Live moved on and he spent a wonderful three years attending Palmerston North Teachers College before finally ending up in Auckland and working as a teacher.
During this time, with all the art resources available in a classroom his interest in art started to develop.
Returning to Christchurch he was invited to join the Mt Pleasant Pottery Club and a life long passion emerged.
Opening a gallery “The Pottery And Friends” in the city mall, he was surrounded by the premier Canterbury potters and their influence was positive and encouraging as he honed his skills.
A wandering spirit took over and Waiheke Island soon became home.
This was a time of experimentation and excitement with the formation of The Clayton Mudd Raku Team, and fun working with tourists.
It was a time of development, marketing and exhibitions.
Finally on moving to the North Shore of Auckland and resting up for a few years, doing a bit of teaching and re-establishing a workshop
he has decided to relaunch himself into the magical world of art.
Ocean Wave
Pacific free
Holding hands in harmony.
Island people,
Flashing smile,
Biding time for just a while.
New direction,
New desire,
Catch the wave,
Light the fire.
